All the king’s horses

Social inequality threaded through our dreams this week. But no sign of class warfare.

For lots of us, the monarchy came to rule over our nights.

Megan, Kate, William and Harry added some classic 21st century glamour. Henry the Eighth and Queen Elizabeth the Second haunted us from the history books.

Regal animals paraded through our dreams. Horses were more frequent than they’d been in months. Lions and Eagles added to the menagerie.

But we didn’t get to wear the crowns or sit on the thrones ourselves. In our dreams this week, we were very much cast as the commoners.

We dreamed of dull work. Mundane jobs from our real lives. Or new boredom conjured. We delivered food, cleaned houses, and waited out the clock.

Apathy instead of revolution.

I was with Henry the Eighth in a 1950's supermarket in Los Angeles. I was working for him. He was the king, even though it was the wrong time and the wrong country We were hoping no one would recognize him. He needed to buy condensed milk.
