Cutting edge

Futuristic technology slices into our bodies, our minds, and communities. This week humanity met robotics. And was crushed under its iron fist.

One dreamer finds themselves enslaved as an AI virtual assistant. Hopelessly longing to see the sky or the stars one more time.

We’re caught up in stomach-churning torture experiments. Evil scientists and aliens dissect us. Merge our DNA with spiders. Hypnotise us whilst we sleep.

Even our familiar folklore-ish predators get a digital makeover. A blue-eyed, people-eating, witch attacks via teleportation.

The doctors kept saying what a good decision I'd made to get better eyes with new robotic tech. I wanted them to stop the surgery, but couldn't move or speak.

Next, I had the new eyes. They felt weird, like I could sense the mechanisms move in my head as the eyeballs moved. I looked into a mirror and that's when I freaked out.

The color of the eyes was slightly off. The fake blood vessels the designers put on them were too symmetrical and perfect. It all felt so wrong. The surgeons demanded I be grateful for the amazing vision and extra abilities these eyes would give me, but I was crying with regret.

They took my real eyes, and I can't ever get them back.
